During the 2018/2019 winter half year construction of the deep foundation and the concrete work for the foundation slab began. The „Warnemünde Cruise Center 8“ has a base area of 2,200 square meters. In addition to the terminal a two-floor service structure was built with 490 square meters of space on each floor. The 2,980 square meter foundation slab rests on 556 bored reinforced concrete piles which were placed in the ground to a depth of eleven meters. Around 1,800 cubic meters of concrete, 900 tonnes of reinforcing and sectional steel, 2,100 square meters of trapezoidal sheets and 1,900 square meters of glass were used in the construction of the new cruise terminal. Its building construction began in autumn 2019. Around 580 tonnes of sectional steel were assembled for the supports and roof trusses. The 2,100 square meters of roof covering were produced from so-called trapezoidal sheet metal. Like the Warnemünde Cruise Center at berth P7 before it, the new terminal building at berth P8 was also given a safety glass façade.
The WCC8 was designed by the architect’s office Bastmann & Zavracky in Rostock. Structural analysis and building supervision were in the responsibility of Rostock-based engineering consultant Inros Lackner. The building services engineering was planned by the engineering consultants Hildebrandt & Kindt and IBE Mahnke & Schaarschmidt from Rostock. Most of the companies involved in the construction are from Mecklenburg-Vorpommern.
Rostock-Warnemünde has steadily developed into a port of call for cruise passengers from near and far. With today’s inauguration we are launching an improved service offer and giving a strong impetus for the restart of tourism on the high seas.
